There must be a Curse of the James Bond Villains at the moment, as two of the best loved ones have died in the last month. The irony, as we mourn their passing in real life, is that somewhat unusually for a James Bond villain, both survived death in their respective Bond films.
Geoffrey Holder, played Baron Samedi in the James Bond movie Live and Let Die, has died in New York at the age of 84. He played the part of the cackling, deranged “Voodoo Villain” in Roger Moore’s first outing as secret agent James Bond. He survived everything James Bond threw at him in Live and Let Die, living rather than dying and was last seen sitting on the front of the train at the end of the film…….cackling away to his heart’s content.
Meanwhile actor Richard Kiel, who played steel-toothed villain Jaws in two James Bond films, died last month in California aged 74.Uniquely for a Bond villain, Jaws appeared in two James Bond films – The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977 and Moonraker in 1979 – and also survived to live happily ever after with his love match!!
Undoubtedly Baron Samedi and Jaws were two of the most memorable and best loved James Bond villains and deserve to be in this Top 5 Best James Bond Villains –
1) Goldfinger ( Goldfinger 1964 )
2) Rosa Klebb ( From Russia With Love 1963 )
3) Scaramanga ( Man With the Golden Gun 1974 )
4) Baron Samedi ( Live and Let Die 1973 )
5) Jaws ( Spy Who Loved Me 1977 & Moonraker 1979 )
