Madchester Revival as Happy Mondays join Stone Roses on the tour road

It seems that the sleeping giant that is “Madchester” is stirring and waking from his twenty year slumber!! Following the Stone Roses announcement late last year that they would be touring in 2012, the Happy Mondays have also confirmed that they will be touring with Inspiral Carpets this year. With  New Order coming out of retirement to tour as well, is it inconceivable that Morrissey and Johnny Marr will bury their differences and re-surface?!!

Let’s face it that last premise is highly unlikely, but if The Smiths were to reform, the clammer and public interest that we have seen surrounding the re-union of Stone Roses, New Order, Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets would be dwarfed in comparison!! The truth is the time is right for the return of these Manchester bands as we complete a 20 year cycle. Egos having mellowed, band tensions long forgotten and the nostalgia of fans and band members alike all facilitate the return of the bands, that along with the Hacienda Club, created the Madchester soundtrack of the Rave culture of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Manchester provided the backdrop for the Ecstasy Generation, with it’s gritty, edgy, urban music. It promises to be a fun Summer for all those 40 somethings, who are now shackled with kids and mortgages, but briefly have an opportunity to re-create the madness of the Madchester Years!!
